Cute Vet, Ugly Bill

I went for a cat show over the weekend (Sunday) at the Tampines West CC w Stella. It's our first cat show n it's just amazing!!

Educational Posters from the Cat Welfare Society.

and on the morning of the cat show, the cat welfare society
volunteers found even more kittens abandoned!
OMG! Volunteers feeding the meowing kittens!

I ran into a very friendly cat lover at the Cat show n he gave me a recommendation of the vet very near my place. In fact I pass by it very often but after I failed to get a medication from them once, I never return.

So I made the appt to bring in my babies... the distance is so near yet so far - too far n heavy to walk the carrier there, too near to take a cab. in the end, I decided to take the cab - boarding was $2.80. I gladly paid the $3 w joy as the Trip meter jumped when I open the taxi door!

I have to admit, I am a sucker for vets.... both female n male.
Or maybe I should give myself some credit, they are true animal lovers - what more can I ask for?!

To be a Singaporean and a Vet, it's really an uphill route from the start!
1st: Typical parents will tell u to be a Human doctor instead!
*Did u knw that LKY's wife dissuade Dr Lee Wee Ling, who was fond of dogs, against a career as a vet. (now the head of singapore’s national neuroscience institute). No joke, from the horses' mouth cos I read it from her weekly column, which I follow religiously! - Read it here

2nd: There aint Vet courses in the many Universities here in Singapore - said to be a WORLD CLASS EDUCATIONAL HUB!

3rd: You have to be rich! A typical Singaporean aspiring  to be vet must be prepared to pay alot more for universities fees (considered Science faculty - which is almost double of a normal Biz Degree), likelyhood no or very little exemptions from modules, usually have to take a Foundation Year (1 year to cover the lack of Science subjects in college years) + 4 years typical of a Veterinary Science Course. On top of that, the nearest you can take such a course will be in AUS, the typical n most well known amongst Singaporeans - Murdoch Uni. Some other popular ones will be Uni of Sydney or Massey Uni (NZ).

Why I know all these? Cos I am a Sore- loser who so wish I can do all these!
I failed all criterias...
Now, u would understand my fetish for vets.... esp cute n handsome ones!

I am thankful to learn that the routine health check up for my babies are good! But my hand trembled when they break the cruel news to me.... the bill was a F**King $247! I calmly surrender my VISA n asked for the bill breakdown politely. The consultation for health check up was only abt $60 for both cats... i asked for some additives for their lousy teeth condition + yet another ear cleaner for Nugget's persistent ear was problem...

This bloody water additive cost $66
*luckily only 1/4 pump to be added to every 1 cup of their drinking water
Lotsa wastage though cos they wun finish all the water anyway!

This toothpaste cos $48
*And there I was complaining that my $8.50 Cologate Sensitive Toothpaste is expensive! This is like almost SIX bloody times more expensive than mine!
Plus, creamie bite thru my index finger when I tried to massage her teeth n gums w it! OUCH!

This $44 ear cleaner adds to my collection.
* Nugget hates to have his left ear cleaned... it's like fighting a spider cat who tries all means to wriggle outa my hands and jumping all ard the room n over the furniture.
Not to mention $35 for a Swap test
for Nugget's ears to make sure those blackish stuff are not ear Mites!

There u go.... for the love of my babies! No to mention that I bot all the cat nibbles I can manage to carry home from the cat show - cos the deal was too good to miss! Another burnt hole to my wallet!

Here I am trying to cut my expenses and staying afloat? Was it really worth it?!
You Bet!
My babies are the most impt to me now.....
Besides,
The vet is superb Cute n Handsome..... and single - no ring as far as I can see! There u go!

Weepy cry baby is Daddy's girl...

I called my Papa last night...
“爸爸,你会不会生气我?”
“生气什么?”
“生气我让你但心lor... ”
“没有lah,爸爸知道你很乖,你做事情,爸爸很放心。不要胡思乱想k 。”

My voicer started to crack... he tried further to assure me that I m a OK-daughter.... i hurried to put down the phone. He sounded really worried, asking me where I was, what I was doing - as if he sensed that I was gona end my life.... big no-no...

Then I sent him this sms:
“亲爱的爸爸,

有好多时候,我很生气自己。生气自己不够努力,赚不够多钱- 没能孝顺您,让您过更好的日子。请原谅我ok!想说的是,我真的好心疼,好爱你哦!
您的宝贝女儿,
AhGirl”

He drove me mad, cos he called me back. I was embarrassed by the sudden emotional outburst... he told me that I am ok n a good girl n “爸爸也爱你ok...”

I think this is the first time I hear my father say he loves me...
I couldnt stop crying... I had to go to the toilet n wept myself tired while sitting on the toilet bowl....

Exactly what got me so emotional suddenly? I was watching Korean Drama series on my lappy the whole day buried myself under blankets...  i knw I will miss watching dramas with my papa if he ever leaves me... just that thought of it is superb scary... that's why I decided to call him to tell him i Miss him n remind him that I love him very much....

Have you told ur love ones how much they mean to you?
If not, do it soon! =D no regrets being the Weepy CryBaby I was.... =D

My cute Papa!
*I taught him this pose! =D*

*Kiki's Delivery Service (魔女の宅急便)* by Hayao Miyazaki

A great fan of Hayao Miyazaki, Zee lend me her precious collection of the anime's by Studio Ghibli,
"Kiki's Delivery Service". I noticed that alot of his films, about women independence, soul searching, personal develop n self discovery! + Usually cats are involved! Kkeekek! That's alot of me!!

This film, has nothing to do with spells, jinxes, hoaxes, or things like that. Witches in the movie are able to just fly with their broomstick and make potions. It may sounds rediculous, but, believe me, theme and plot of this wonderful movie are great. This is one of movies that is worth to be seen.

Plot: Kiki's Delivery Service is the story of an adolescent witch named Kiki, who leaves home at the age of thirteen to establish herself in a new city, according to witch tradition. Though Kiki's takes place in a world where witches are real and magic works, witches themselves are rare but not unknown to the general populace. Kiki is accompanied on her journey by Jiji, her black cat and familiar. All witches have some special power, like fortune-telling or potion making, but Kiki can only fly on her broom. And she's a little shaky doing even that. But after deciding to settle in a beautiful seaside city, Kiki uses her flying skills to open up a delivery service for the locals. The movie chronicles her various deliveries and Kiki's discovery of her own strength and independence.

Who is Hayao Miyazaki? Jap manga anime anyone?

Since I recently watched *Ponyo* and was nicknamed "Ponyo" by my Japanese rmmate at the clinic.... I am much intrigued to find out more abt the director! Thanks to my Malay friend(Surprise surprise!) that it's by the director Hayao Miyazaki! He is so famous even my Japanese rmmate nodded her head furiously to agree that his works are GREAT!

So who is Hayao Miyazaki? My 2nd AngMo bestfriend, Wiki, says:

Hayao Miyazaki (宮崎 駿, Miyazaki Hayao), born January 5, 1941) is a Japanese manga artist and prominent film director and animator of many popular anime feature films. Through a career that has spanned nearly five decades, Miyazaki has attained international acclaim as a maker of animated feature films and, along with Isao Takahata, co-founded Studio Ghibli, an animation studio and production company. The success of Miyazaki's films has invited comparisons with American animator Walt Disney, British animator Nick Park as well as Robert Zemeckis, who pioneered Motion Capture animation, and he has been named one of the most influential people by Time Magazine.

Miyazaki began his career at Toei Animation as an in-between artist for Gulliver's Travels Beyond the Moon where he pitched his own ideas that eventually became the movie's ending. He continued to work in various roles in the animation industry over the decade until he was able to direct his first feature film Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro which was published in 1979. After the success of his next film, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, he co-founded Studio Ghibli where he continued to produce many feature films until Princess Mononoke whereafter he temporarily retired. After taking a short break, Miyazaki returned to direct Spirited Away and has continued to direct several films since then.

While Miyazaki's films have long enjoyed both commercial and critical success in Japan, he remained largely unknown to the West until Miramax released his 1997 film, Princess Mononoke. Princess Mononoke was the highest-grossing film in Japan—until it was eclipsed by another 1997 film, Titanic—and the first animated film to win Picture of the Year at the Japanese Academy Awards. His next film, Spirited Away, topped Titanic's sales at the Japanese box office, also won Picture of the Year at the Japanese Academy Awards and was the first anime film to win an American Academy Award. Many of his other films have won or been nominated for many awards.

Miyazaki's films often incorporate recurrent themes, such as humanity's relationship to nature and technology, and the difficulty of maintaining a pacifist ethic. Reflecting Miyazaki's feminism, the protagonists of his films are often strong, independent girls or young women. While two of his films, The Castle of Cagliostro and Castle in the Sky, involve traditional villains, his other films such as Nausicaa or Princess Mononoke present morally ambiguous antagonists with redeeming qualities.

So I watched *Spirited Away 千与千寻* before!

very light hearted n warm... besides... never see Nugget Boy watch TV so attentively b4, he actually finished the whole movie with me (1hr12mins)... so cute!

When the movie ended, I found Nugget curling up in his favourite sofa that was beside me, head resting on his paws and still watching the TV attentively... he had a "Awww..... so sweet ending" look on his face....kekekke!

Honestly, I am not a fan of anime, but it was really enjoyable!
Who knows, I might be a new convert?!

Btw, ever watch this before? *A Chinese Ghost Story, 小倩* by The Tsui Hark Animation

I would say this was the first anime I watched in the cinema! =D
Catch it n have Fun!

Still crazy about the Ponyo theme song!

OMG! I am still suffering from the Ponyo theme song Earworm!
Bear with me!!!

Lyrics (Romaji):

Ponyo Ponyo Ponyo sakana no ko
Aoi umi kara yatte kita
Ponyo Ponyo Ponyo fukurannda
Manmaru onaka no onna no ko

Peta-peta pyon-pyon
Asitte iina kakechao
Migi-migi-bun-bun
Otetewa iina tunaijao

Anoko to haneru to kokoro mo odoruyo
Paku-paku chu-gyu, paku-paku chu-gyu
Anoko ga daisuki

Makkakka no Ponyo Ponyo Ponyo sakana no ko
Aoi umi kara yatte kita
Ponyo Ponyo Ponyo fukurannda
Manmaru onaka no onna no ko

Lyrics(English):
Ponyo Ponyo Ponyo, it’s a fish kid
It came from the blue ocean
Ponyo Ponyo Ponyo,
She is a round bellied girl

Peta-peta pyon-pyon
How nice to have feet! I’ll try to run!
Migi-migi-bun-bun
How nice to have hands! I’ll try to hold hands with!

When I jump with her, my heart dances along
Paku-paku chu-gyu, paku-paku chu-gyu
I love her so much!

Ponyo Ponyo Ponyo, it’s a fish kid in red
It came from the blue ocean
Ponyo Ponyo Ponyo,
She is a round bellied girl
